Chapter Thirteen

Manny felt a dull ache in her head and a fuzzy, odd taste in her mouth when she awoke the next morning. Without opening her eyes, she tried to roll over and found she couldn’t.

That’s when her eyes popped open and she bit her tongue in an effort not to let out a startled cry.

Rhys lay soundly sleeping next to her, rolled onto his left side and facing her.

That means…

She carefully reached behind her with her left hand and realized that, yes, the warm, firm mass laying behind her was Korbin-shaped.

Crap crap crap crap crap!

Panic building inside her, she slowly sat up and worked her way down the bed, freeing herself from between the two men.

As she stood at the foot of the bed and stared at them she realized yes, the wine had done holy wonders. Places of her ached in pleasant ways, in ways they hadn’t ached in…

Ever, truth be told.

She ran a hand through her tousled hair. Actually, digging right down through the bone of truth to the marrow, last night had been the singularly best night of sex in her life. The men had surprised her in ways she’d never dreamed possible.

She suspected maybe they’d surprised themselves, too, based on their reactions.

What am I going to do?

She was supposed to be protecting them, taking care of them. Keeping an eye on them and figuring out what the hell was going on.

Not…this.

What the hell is this, anyway?

She stumbled for the bathroom, quietly closing the door behind her before turning on the light and staring at herself in the mirror.

She looked like…

Well, I looked like I got thoroughly reamed by two great hunks last night.

She clapped a hand over her mouth to stifle the nervous, nearly hysterical peal of laughter that tried to burp free over that thought.

Her cell phone lay charging on the counter. Grabbing it, she looked at the time and realized they were going to be late to work. No time to ponder the implications. That would have to wait until later.

She used the toilet as she impatiently waited for the shower to get hot. When she climbed in, she resisted the urge to mutter to herself as she stood there under the stinging spray. How stupid she was for letting herself lose control like that. For putting the men at risk.

Or for putting my heart at risk.

It wouldn’t—couldn’t—end well. It never did for her in matters of the heart. Either they left…

Or they died.

The stinging in her eyes caught her by surprise at first. She pressed her forehead against the cool tile wall and let the tears flow as she cried, for herself, for Andy, for being a fucking stupid moron.

She didn’t even realize it at first when the shower curtain moved, until Rhys stuck his head inside and spotted her standing there. Without a word he joined her, not asking if she wanted him there. He pulled her to him and held her until all the resistance left her body and she let him console her.
